Elimite (PERMETHRIN) is a pediculicide and a scabicide. It affects the nervous system of the parasites. Permethrin topical is used to treat head lice and scabies. Permethrin topical may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide

Product Description

Common uses

Elimite is used for the treatment of scabies.

Before using

Do not use permethrin topical if you have an allergy to chrysanthemums.
Do not use permethrin topical if you have ever had an allergic reaction to it.
Permethrin topical is in the pregnancy category B. This means that it is not expected to be harmfuo to an unborn baby. Do not use permethrin topical without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. Permethrin passes into breast milk, and it is not known whether permethrin topical will harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

Directions

Use Elimite as directed by your doctor.
• Thoroughly massage into the skin from the head to the soles of the feet. It is not necessary to put the medicine on the scalp except in children and older patients.
• Remove the medicine by washing after 8 to 14 hours.
• You may experience itching after treatment. This is not a sign of treatment failure. However if living mites are seen after 14 days, retreatment is necessary.
Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Elimite.

Cautions

Do not use Elimite if:
• you are allergic to any ingredient in Elimite.
Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Important :
• Elimite Cream is for external use only. Do not use it near the eyes or allow it to come into contact with the inside of the nose, mouth, or genitals. Irritation may occur if Elimite Cream comes into contact with these areas. If Elimite Cream gets in your eyes, flush with water immediately.
• Elimite Cream should not be used in children younger than 2 months old; safety and effectiveness in these children have not been confirmed.
• Pregnancy and breast-feeding: If you become pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Elimite Cream while you are pregnant. It is not known if Elimite Cream is found in breast milk after topical use. Do not breast-feed while using Elimite Cream.

Possible side effects

Notify your doctor if any of the following side effects occur: itching, burning or stinging, tingling, numbness, redness, swelling, or rash.

If you take too much

If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. This medicine may be harmful if swallowed. Symptoms of overdose may include dizziness, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, headache, weakness, seizures, and loss of consciousness.

Additional information

Itching may continue for up to 14 days due to sensitivity to mites. This does not indicate treatment failure. Contact your doctor before using this medicine again. Do not share this medicine with others for whom it was not prescribed. Do not use this medicine for other health conditions. Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.

Drug interactions

Do not apply other topical preparations to the affected area during treatment with permethrin topical.
Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with permethrin topical. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines, including vitamins, minerals, and herbal products.
